Hearts feed off Kaunas again as Polish midfielder joins up

HEARTS plundered the ranks of owner Vladimir Romanov's 'other' team, FBK Kaunas, yet again yesterday to sign Polish midfielder Adrian Mrowiec.
The 24-year-old midfielder joins team-mate Marian Kello in being recruited from Rangers' Champions League conquerors this summer and follows a long list of arrivals from the Lithuanian outfit in recent years.

The news of a fresh face comes at th
e perfect time to try and raise spirits following Wednesday night's shock Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat on penalties to Airdrie.

However, given the standard of some previous signings from Kaunas, supporters may reserve judgment on the recruitment of yet another unknown from their feeder club.

Question marks were raised over Kello's transfer, with Romanov's remarks over the untrustworthiness of demoted No 1 Steve Banks suggesting the Russian-born banker had already reneged on claims he would take a step back from first-team affairs this season.

Manager Csaba Laszlo insisted he had the final say over the goalkeeper's loan deal, but the signing of yet another player from Kaunas will again raise doubts over Laszlo's role in player recruitment.

The Tynecastle head coach had identified central midfield as an area needing strengthening before Monday's transfer deadline, however. And he feels Mrowiec – who played in both legs against Rangers, as well as both 2-0 defeats to Danes Aalborg that saw Kaunas knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night – will prove a good signing.

He said: "This is a player that we wanted to sign and I am happy that he is coming to Hearts. We needed to strengthen the central midfield defensive position and I think Adrian will help us."

Laszlo is now expected to turn his attentions towards a new goalscorer, with Hearts' desperate need for a striker being highlighted by their inability to score in 120 minutes against Airdrie United. A loan move for Rangers' Alan Gow is a possibility if funds can be found.

Laszlo has insisted he is content with his team's progress, despite their sorry cup exit, and has urged supporters to retain their belief in the players after two league wins out of three so far.

He commented:

"We're not Barcelona and results like (Wednesday] night will happen as we progress. No team wins every game. But we have ideas and we must learn and progress. As a team we all have responsibility because we are doing a serious job. Everything is possible, though, and I am very satisfied with our progress."

I for one trust Csaba's judgement. If he's seen our new midfielder perform consistently over a period of months then there's every reason to think that he's putting the building blocks in place of a title challenging side.

Here is the link to the BBC Sport Predictor:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/predictor/

I have set-up a minileague for all posters on here willing to join.

It’s just a bit of fun and it starts with next weekend’s SPL fixtures.

All you need to do is go to the link and create your own membership. Try and make your user id as close to the one you use on here, so we all know who you are.

NB. If you are already registered and have points on the board, please re-register with a slightly different user id for this minileague, so that everyone starts on ZERO points.
Anyone joining with points already accrued will be removed.

Once you’re in, select “My Minileagues” and enter . . .

The Scotsman Forum

. . . as the minileague name.

The password is . . .

thescotsman

Once you have joined the minileague, you can start making your predictions. You get 1 point for a correct result and 3 points for a correct score. After each set of fixtures you can check the minileague table to see where you are and who is on top etc.

Enjoy it. It’s just a bit of fun.

i see there was just under 7000 at the midweek game, bit of a surprise considering they have 400,000 loyal fans... must have a been a coronation street special on the tv that night or something??

I think you're manager will do a decent job, but I dont think he was monitoring a player for the last few months when Csaba was based in Uganda.

With the backing of the support from the season ticket holders you would think the Hearts would bring in a player from a club other than Kanaus. At least once in this decade.

WS will start Miller, he will give a ton of effort and run till he drops, but when it comes to putting the ball in the net, well...

I hope Beasley plays wide left in midfield as I think he could tear Hinkel a new a-sehole. He at rightback is the big weakness, much like Bigfoot if he plays there for us,, would prefer to see Whittaker line up at right back.

I agree with Csaba re the diddy cup exit we are not Barca and odd results will crop up from time to time.
As it stands we got 6 points in the league from 3 games.Lets see what happens over the next 5-6 games then maybe we will have a clue as to what direction the team is heading.

I have stated that Csaba has brought organization and stability to HMFC compared to what you have had since Burley left.

Do you not wonder why VR seems to like to pull in players from Kanaus?

I think if he left his manager to do the signing of players, he would do a far better job than you're banker owner!!!

BTO - I think I know what you mean.

If you select the tab "My Predictions" it shows nothing, because it looks like this tab is for all previous predictions for games that have been played.

If you select the tab "Make Predictions" it should show your predictions for the weekend, which means all is ok. If you did enter your predictions and they are not showing here, there is indeed a propblem and you will need to re-do them.

It does seem a bit confusing, but effectively, "My Predictions" is really where you look up past predictions against acyual results.

26

Harlem Tam,

The reason why the predictions you have already entered for this weekend still appear in "Make Predictions" rather than "My Predictions" is because up until 3pm Saturday you can go in and change what you have already entered. After predictions for the weekend have closed, your entries will then appear in "My Predictions" and "Make PRedictions" will show the next set of fixtures.

Quite easy really, you should buy a beginners puzzle book to start you off but I should warn you it is addictive, if your on that train for an hour it'll seem like 2 minutes.

I'm top already .

41

Harlem Tam,

bto - What I used to do was to start with the cubes or lines with the most boxes already filled-in. Then, using a pencil, write the only possible answers in the corners of each of the remaining boxes. As you fill boxes yourself, you can eliminate some of the possibilities and before long, you begin to break it down. Often you have 2 possibilities (eg 3 and 5) in one box and the same 2 possibilities in another box in the same line or cube, so you can eliminate these 2 numbers from the other boxes in the line or cube.

Sounds complicated but it isn't really once you get into it. It's pure logic and nothing to do with maths or arithmetic.
42

Harlem Tam,

29/08/2008 07:29:57
Jumpship - I have removed you from the minileague. The reason nobody has any points is that we are only starting the league for the first time this weekend. If you want to take part, you need to re-register with a brand new name, example jumpship2 or something like that, or any name you chose, so that you start with ZERO points, and everyone gets a fair deal.

For instance, I am Harlem_Tam on the Scotsman minileague with ZERO points, but I am HArlemTam in another family/mates minileague where I already have about 12 points on the board. The fairest way is for anyone who, like you and me, have been registered since the start of the season and have accrued points, to re-register with a new name.

Thanks.

back to the story

vlad told csaba he could have his pick of the kaunas team, so no reason to think that this is a vlad signing. He might well be rubbish but we don't know that yet, seems to have done well against rangers recently so i will reserve judgment until he has played a few games.

#118 No I don't really think the facts would back you up there. Your owner and chairman have a track record of bringing in players. I'll admit you're a bigger club - just look at the size of your debt compared to ours. We've got an owner who says he is in it for the long run. Rangers, on the other hand....
61

Who?,

29/08/2008 09:15:58
Laszlo's remit was always to be a head coach rather than a manager. If you look at the numerous people vlad sounded out and interviewed before Csaba got the job all those who went public admitted that vlad would be primarily in charge of player recruitment and have consultation on team selection. So far this has been proven correct.

This is no different at other clubs- rangers have martin bain signing the players with walter smith having a small amount of input. When Murray ran the show he took advice from his managers but the final say or purchases or sales was his. Smith has had numerous run ins with both murray and bain over team selection. Smith won most of the battles and continues with 1 up front.

At celtic desmond has been responsible for numerous signings such as keane and Gravessen forcing napolian to play them. This happened during fergus mccans time and happened during the days of family control.

Every club in the spl is exactly the same. Owners invest money knowing the returns will be nill (rangers £100m+ in debt) so the way they get their fix is to play real life championship manager. Its always happened and always will.

I would have thought qualifying for the group stages of the CL at least makes you a good, well run club.
The big and excellent clubs are the ones that get to the last 4/8 perhaps.
Your lot are an awfully similar to us at the moment.
An owner who interferes in player selection and a club in debt up to its eyeballs.
At the end of the day we are both fighting for the same position in the league.....

Pundit, why do you only talk about Hearts & Hibs? I know you were papped out of Europe by our rejects and that your obviously bitter about it, but you must have something else you can do?! Are there no cars you could go and jump on, or policemen you could assault??

For the record, Takis Fysass, Edgaras Jankauskas were not the Hearts managers signings, but Vladimir Romanov's. Not only were both of them class acts, and among the most highly decorated to grace the SPL, but one of them was, wait for it, LITHUANIAN!!!!

I am not condoning or excusing Romanov's signing policy, but some of them have been very successful so i'm willing to give the guy some game time to prove himself, just as I would for any Scottish, Italian, Spanish or Czech player that we signed.

Hearts & Hibs may not like each other very much, but make no mistake Pundit, we ALL hate the Old Firm and their scumbag supporters, of which you make you a tremendous stereotype : )

#136 The orangutan at #135 is a far better example of a knuckle dragger but you are bang on with your synopsis of the gobsh1te that is diddyboy with his fellow rioter bto coming in a close third in the Muppet race.

#147 There are lies, damned lies and statistics. Your performances in Europe were boring, boring, boring and the whole of Europe witnessed it. So don't come on here and try to tell us you're fifth or sixth best.

Watch yourselves tumble as you're not even involved this season.....how many demerit points for losing to a diddy wee team from a diddy wee country? The same team that is supplying us Mrowiec.

Big cheer for bto,now ahead by a neck in the weegie Muppet race.

#155 Oh yeah. You're right. You're better than me because you support a more successful football team.
Go you. You're the best. Better than all the rest. Cos you manage to combine wanting to be English and disgracing the whole of Scotland in one neat baw bag shaped package.

Yes. I really, really, wish I was you. Please can I be a Rangers fan? Pretty please? Then I'd be the bestest too. Old people would admire me, children would look up to me and women would swoon when I walk past them in the street.
That's what it's like being a Rangers fan isn't it?

I'm just sooo jealous. I think I'm going to burst.
Honestly.

I have always enjoyed reading your posts and believed you had a very balanced point of view. I am, however, extremely disappointed in that post - in my opinion there was no requirement for it. Sure, dish it out to the old firm pests, their arrogance is unbelievable at times. But not this way, on a public forum.

Do these half-wits honestly believe that "We arra peepul" is a proud saying???? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!

All it does is associate you with bigots, sectarianism & rioting. Although that pretty much sums up the self-procliamed "institution" that is Glasgow Rangers: Scotland's shame.

I'd rather win a cup every 10 years or so than win one every season and be hated by the rest of the country thanks very much : )

Infact i'd go as far as to say i'd rather wait 107 years for my next cup win than be a Rangers fan.

#155 Nah, nah, nah - you've got it all wrong. Let me explain. During the latter part of the 17th century, the forces of Orange could only afford very small bows thus limiting the size of the projectiles they could fire from them. This led to them being laughingly referred to as "The Wee Arra People". Still if you want go on bellowing it out then we'll all keep laughing. Your call.

#159 Sorry AJ.
But, ach they just get to me. I know, I know, public forum, free speech, blank the plank etc. But there's always some mob on here determined to put their tuppence worth in and stop us talking about our club, beit these tubes, Mixu 6-2, Serg, Riley, TommyTommy, EddieMalofeev, the list goes on - and there's always someone, the names may change but their agenda remains.
And you know what? I can't be bothered wading through their pathetic bile and hatred just to find out what my fellow Jambos think about whats going on at the club. So, sod it, I'm out of here. It's been fun guys, I'll catch yous later...

As for Murderwell, has anyone saw Boyles Zoom airlines have went t1ts up, about to go into administration, Boyles in serious financial difficulty, looks like murderwell could be heading back to their favourite past time of administration, couldnt happen to a nicer club or manager, McGhee will soon be regretting turning the job offer from Scotlands 3rd biggest team down.

There is simply no point in even trying to talk to your mob when you come out with stuff like that.

1) Motherwell pushed way past us? Laughable. They have had their good season.
2) You guys are so far adrift of celtic that if anyone is being pushed by the 3rd place team, it's you lot.

And they have the cheek to call us jambos deluded.

I seriously think it is you who is spouting garbage. "Problem is, most of them are like this on a good day." You are having a laugh. Have you taken a long hard long at many of your fellow supporters? Whilst we may have a small moronic element your team has massive issues with bigotry, violence and thuggery. Yes, your club are trying to address it but it is still there for all to see. Scotland's shame. So think carefully before you make you pointless and blatantly untrue generic statements.

And as for that other idiot in post #172 - what is the point of replying to a total moron?

Csaba I have no doubt will turn Hearts into the team capable of challenging the OF. OK he has another player from Kaunas but so what this player could be an asset to us. What I would like to see is a goalscorer brought into the Club. Another 3 points tomorrow will do nicely but it will be hard going with the front line we have.

#200 Face it big kenny - you were caught out spouting guff yet again. I hate to say it but we lost our crown as the laughing stock of Scottish football a few weeks ago when Kaunus horsed you out of Europe for the season. Still makes me smile but you did do well to hold them to 0-0 at home, I'll give you that.

Just think of all that money you might have made and how much you gave Celtic on a plate. Now that's a real laugh.....

#176 GORGIES FINEST

Another rant on a subject you know nothing of I see.
ZOOM's principal shareholder and CEO is John Boyle's BROTHER....and the demise of this airline sure won't be the last, although few still to come will be felt more adversely than this one, as it gave Scotland a much better edge on both European and (especially) North American travel than the equally financially strapped and far-from-service-driven giants with whom they been competing.
Far from cheap points scoring to serve petty prejudices, we should see this demise as bad news for the whole of the country, and its effect goes way beyond your tasteless view.
