HEARTS have declared an interest in Motherwell striker Chris Porter with the intention of luring the Englishman to Tynecastle before the transfer window closes.
Porter is one of several strikers, including Chris Killen and Andrius Velicka, on a list of potential signing targets presented to Hearts' majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov by manager Csaba Laszlo.

The club have intimated their interest to Porter's representatives and are now awaiting a response. Laszlo is keen to recruit the 25-year-old in the window rather than sign him on a pre-contract agreement with his current Motherwell deal due to expire this summer.

However, Hearts face competition from English Championship sides Sheffield United, Norwich City and Blackpool plus an unnamed European club. Motherwell are requesting a fee of £200,000 to release Porter from the remaining six months of his contract.

He has scored seven goals this season, following on from a tally of 18 last year which propelled the Lanarkshire club towards European qualification.

Laszlo believes Porter could offer Hearts a much-needed killer instinct in attack. "He is a good player but I don't think it's only Hearts who have an interest in him. He is a regular scorer and a very interesting name. He is definitely a name on my list," said the Hungarian.

"Like any player, he must have the will to come. Porter is not the only name that is interesting me but he is a player who can make a difference in the striker position.

"He knows the league and this is always a big advantage. He is a young player and for every young player Heart of Midlothian must be interesting because a lot of young players get a chance to play in the SPL here.

"We have a lot of names. If we make a deal, everybody must be satisfied. The player, the selling club and the buying club. Making a deal is not easy and I don't want to take a player who is not satisfied because then you cannot expect a good performance.

"We are looking at what we can do in the transfer market. I gave my plan and some names that can be interesting for us, now the decision is the board's."

Porter would be a good signing, and good value at 200k, but would he want to come and play for us ahead of any of the championship clubs mentioned? I also wonder how he would fare as a lone striker if Lazlo sticks to his current tactics?

Skiver,

At least Shabba is identifying players like Porter, Velicka, Killen - proven SPL scorers - the type of player we should have been signing all along.

Pazuzu,

He would be a good signing for the Yaks, sadly.
Although I can't see him going to the Yaks though.

I smell agents touting for the highest bidder.

Glory, glory to the Hibees.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that this came out the day before Hearts play Motherwell. Not an underhand tactic to unsettle Porter at all, who's already said he plans to stay at Motherwell until the end of the season. Nope, can't be that at all.
7

Are they going to buy him before they pay Arbroath ?.

We be a very astute signing, as is Iain Black.

Proven in the SPL and lets face it a blind man with 1 leg would be better than what we have up front at the moment. Although I do think Nade brings a lot to the team.

But,but, but, but, but The Hibees are very very qualified in both Eastern European Banking and Hearts finances and have told us for months that not only do we not have any money we are on the verge of collapse???

#6 - If he's already said he plans to stay there until the end of the season as you claim, but no longer, then how can this unsettle him?

Will he not be taking every opportunity to impress and increase his value, especially in front of one the managers showing interest?

12

I'd add another name to Csabas list, Steve Lovell, another proven SPL scorer. You dont have to be the most fantastic player as long as you can net, Kris Boyd being the most obvious example. Nade has good skill but in his position it means nothing if that onion bag isnae bulgin.

aaahh haa haa haaa ....non starter he wont even consider going to Hearts as he wants to go back down south....source = chris porter......Killen is a serious waste of space and i wouldnt even wish him on the jambos as he is nothing more than a money grabbing sicknote
19

huggs,

Would be very happy if we managed to get Porter and he wont be up fron on his own as some posters seem to think
Csaba would play two up front now if we had two good enough to play
20

Dr Shrink,

06/01/2009 12:27:36
Porter is looking to better himself from Motherwell fc,
now if he went the way of tynie, that would surely be a step backward,

Also he would not be guaranteed to get payed,
Mr Romanov you amaze everyone,

he is not even a starter for well, he is a bench warmer.
21

Jimmy Jam Tart,

Edinburgh 06/01/2009 12:31:46
Would be a great addition to the squad. He always seems to get the chances and I think with a bit of coaching could go on to be a great striker.

If he has any ambition he surely wants to join Hearts who have Scottish Cups and European forays to look forward to instead of stagnating in the Championship.

Get him in for Sunday!!!!
22

Iain Bhern,

No chance of Chris Porter, as he wants to go back down south, as for Killen he is useless, he would be more in the treatment room than on the park, he like Riordan should have stayed with Hibs. C"Mon the JTs

Is it just me or has anyone noticed the complete contradiction in reports by the Scotsman and EEN about Elliots feelings on coming back to Tynie.

For the last week he's been 'quoted' as saying he doesn't want to come back, please don't send for me ....

Now today we get real quotes from the player saying all the right things. I'm sorry, I was stupid, it was just the kick up the ar*e I needed to get back on track and so on ...

Wouldn't be a case of lazy journalism again would it ? Short on news today, let's just make something up and say it came from a 'secret' source, or a 'source close to' ...

It's all bo**ocks.

Interesting comments and article given Hearts need to be active in the transfer market. The best of all the comments (IMHO) is whether Chris would want to play the lone striker role. I doubt it.
27

Glorious Hearts,

28 I don't think he would be asked to play the lone striker's role.
Csaba has already stated his preference for 2 up front and admitted that our current formation is due to lack of available strikers.

#26 - no, it's not just you. But they still get paid...

Nice bit of mind games ahead of tomorrow's game. Porter's name may well be on Csaba's list, but there's no coincidence that this was leaked the day before we're due to play his current club.

Play them at their own game, Csaba.

#29 - I reckon its also down to the midfielders we have too.

We have a reputation (god knows why...) of being a "big physical team", when in fact in midfield especially we are anything but. Very lightweight (skillful sometimes, but lightweight), and we would struggle with only 4 midfielders.

Bring back Julian Brellier. Or someone like him. Then with some extra strikers we can play 2 up with impunity.

Could be a good signing Chris Porter.. (One of Motherwell's better players).

I think keeping Berra and Driver is a higher priority than signing anyone at the moment. They two are our main assets at the moment.

A couple of seasons down the line i think Jonsson will snap us alot of cash aswell.

I'd definatly be listening to any offers for Zaliukas, Kingston.. Whoever else really at the moment..

I can see for miles:
I'd think they would pay in monthly installments, say over a 25 Year Period with an option to pay off quicker once they have sold the nuclei of the team.

There is no other way the Yakettes will afford him.
And anyhow, why would Porter go to a non-paying team.
Does he want to work for nada?
Or should that be Nade?

As predicted earlier, there will be more Eastern European imports landing at the Pink Bus Smelter soon.

Players like Porter and Killen are being put in the shop window by one or more agents - very factual.

Have you noticed the Pyramid Shares selling issues with Romanov's company's also?
Illegal in UK.

Did you also notice the Russian embargo on Gas too...

All these issues DO not bode well for the Yaks of Woolworths.

Whatever it was used for before is irrelevant, however I'd much rather have a sub standard steel bust stop for a stadia than a pink one knocked up with "wriggly tin".....

BTW are you the building control officer? If not then I suggest your not even qualified to pass comment on what is or is not sub standard ya fool....

Anyhow's back to the matter in hand, Porter would (sadly) be a good signing for Hearts IMO. Proven ability at SPL level and will score goals...

Dont see £200k being too much of a stumbling block even for the skint Hearts so could well happen although going on things the lad has said in the past I'd be inclined to think hed head south of the border...

As for Killen..... Does anyone remember a bloke called "Brian Hamilton"?????? That would be about the same level of an ex-hibs player later signing for Hearts!!! Honestly the guy might score a goal or two but he's a lazy, injury prone nothing.... If youse want him then please go right ahead, fill your boots... I'm sure the ginger whinger will be more than happy to be shot of him..

Been away down south for the New Year so but did manage to watch the Derby game on t/v.Again anything is better than Naddy the Haddy. That guy could spend weeks on a pitch before he could score. He must be the most incompetant in front of goal there`s been.Even Elliot could score in before him.So any new signing would be welcome. What about Gary Glen`s shot though ? Hard luck. What about these ignorant morons who disrespected George Miller ? A total disgrace and should get back to their Leith slums.

Sorry boys, guess Spurs are just about the bigger club after all......

Hehehehe, just kidding... but on a personal level I'm delighted he's back at the lane, although a net cost of £6m smacks of very poor business from Spurs as we should have known Berbatov & Keane would be offski and held onto him in the first place!

I support Oldham Athletic and both Porter and Killen have played for them.

Of the two, Porter is your best bet, as he will give you more games, more goals and will probably cost you a lot less in signing on fees and wages.

Killen was a very good striker and all round player, but spent a lot of time injured and is probably a better player than Porter when on top of his game.

I think Porter still lives near Preston and has shown a desire to move back down to England. He was our top scorer with 20+ goals and rejected a move to Plymouth, who offered £400k for him. His move north on a "free" meant we lost out on the money side, after buying him from Bury.

You'll get no loyalty from Porter, but then again, that's nothing new from any player these days.

Romanov is not really interested in splashing the cash to get Porter, Killen or Vellicka, its all smoke and mirrors, if Elliot scores a couple of goals over the next fortnight we'll be stuck with him and some obscure East European striker probably from Kaunas. If we must have someone from Kaunas how about that Brazilian midfielder who ran rings round Rangers, shunt Kingston out and get him in.

Whats all this talk of an Ambush ? Is the match being moved to Iraq ? 5h1t i better sell my ticket before everybody else finds out. Or i could go out and buy myself a new pair of Dunlop Maroon flash so i can run away from all those wee weeds in the Dunlop greenflash until the fittest wee weed keeps up , only to realise his mates have stopped chasing. Its at that point his green flashes turn brown !!!

Did you know that there is no concept of "zero" in Chinese.

If Hearts ever go on tour there it will confuse the local supporters

136 although i appreciate the comment that we dont want that sort on the forum. Reading back its hobbo talk of an ambush on sunday. How are we supposed to respond ?? #137 I remember that Foster goal. The celebrations behind the goal. I was walking up the steps saying to my mate, we will do them in the replay at Tynie. We were still at school in those days so never had the pleasure of celebrating in the pub- But i will on Sunday !

Amoeba, with a large dose of homozygosity.

What a couple of @r$eh@lf$.

csf1874, cleaned yer screen yet?
All that spittle must make looking at the screen remind you when you and yer mates are sniffing the old bostik eh?
Of course once you've done that yer swapping each other's favourite sock and filling them up individually eh.

Ostriches, the lot of em.

Glory, glory to the Hibees.
A team with a great history and a real future.

HMFC copying RFC since 1874, soon to be missed.
Due to foreseen circumstances.

Amoeba!

Have you not learned your lesson oh singled celled one?

This is for human interaction, so that excludes you.
Unless of course you put your favourite sock down, put you're Kays Catalogue (lingerie) away, and stop stroking the keyboard in a symbiotic fashion.

You may then get a decent response, as after all there aren't many single cell, sock fisters on this thread.

Glory, glory to the Hibees.

Bleeding Heart...:

Blah, blah, blah..
Y-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-k!

I will always be here, Hibee till I die.
Sunday, oh that's right a little game coming up against a BIG team eh, the same BIG team who where going to:

1 - Win the EUFA Cup
2 - Bring in the best players from etc..
3 - Blah, blah.
4 - blah, blah.
5 - Win the World Cup
6 - Sign Ronaldo
7 - Develop the PBS, going well innit.
8 - .....
9 - ..... incoming fax....
10 - ......outgoing fax....

And that has really happened eh, the only thing we hear about the Yaks is the outstanding bills they can't pay and the players they are selling to survive.

Wow!

The futures good, and the futures green.

Not a puky maroon colour.

Glory, glory to the Hibees.

Astaroth How much has just been offered for your captain ? From Colchester yet EPL teams are tracking our captain
Take what you will from that

huggs:
I take nothing from it, it was a nothing bid.

I assume you refer to all the millions you are getting for your players, take from that what you will.

HMFC need to sell and will.
And as predicted more Eastern Europeans are coming to Vladcastle to fill the empty spaces.

Hibs don't need to, but are known to sell.

Bottom line is, Jonesy not worth millions.
Bothered? Not me.
Great player for Hibs at times.

Berra worth millions, depends on what colour of shades your wearing and how greedy the agent is.

What joy it would be for Jonesy to put it in the back of the net on Sunday. Now, that will be one in a million.

Glory, glory to the Hibees.

They currently force Scotland send ALL ITS OIL MONEY to LONDON.

A MASSIVE revenue that is worth £22,831 a minute, £32 million a day, 12 billion a year.

A revenue that is so VAST it would allow Scotland to BUILD 2 SECONDARY SCHOOLS A DAY !!!!!!!!!!
