JOHN Hughes wants to force Hearts supporters into hiding for a fortnight as he prepares for his first Edinburgh derby as Hibernian manager.
As a lifelong Hibs fan, as well as a former player at Easter Road, Hughes knows just how important bragging rights are in the capital. And with a two-week international break looming, Hughes has vowed to do everything he can to ensure it is his own club's supporters who arrive at work on Monday with their heads held high. He said: "You want to walk about for the next couple of weeks in Edinburgh with a smile on your face, going into your work beside one or two Hearts supporters and making sure that they're hiding from you. That's what it's all about."

It's funny that Hibbies care more about these bragging rights than the vast majority of Hearts fans. For most of my life, I've always wanted us to beat Hibs badly, but never really gloated over my friends in green. When Hibs were relegated a while back, I missed the rivalry, but it's just three points. Were I in edinburgh, I'd proudly show my maroon colours. Even if sad cases like Mixu 6-2 were strutting around, I'd still be a proud Jambo. I'm a fan not because of shouting loudly when I win, but because I shout loudly when we're fielding a steaming pile, like we are at the moment.

I want us to beat Hibs because we need the points.

Hearts fans to hide?? I take it it's Hearts who have one of the worst derby records in Europe?? Never hide from any Hibs fan as I've seen Hearts do more than what most Hibs fans will see in their puffs.

#2 Precisely what? - Have you seen your side win 5 recognised domestic cups in your lifetime?(3 League Cups and 2 Dryburgh Cups) Which side has recorded the biggest derby score in your lifetime?(0-7) Which side has gone further in European competition in your lifetime(Quarter final).

Yeah, which one, dufus?

You know, the one a while back quite recently.

The one where "the hobos got a draw and they celebrated like they won the Scottish cup ".

Although if it was celebrated in a similar fashion as Hibs winning the SC that would involve the wearing of top hats and the brisk waving of handkerchiefs.....

What a load of ill-informed nonsene "As a lifelong Hibs fan, as well as a former player at Easter Road, Hughes knows just how important bragging rights are in the capital".

What about the spell "glory-hunting" Hughes had as a Celtic supporter?

I see his career taking exactly the same path once the strain on Mowbray's shoogly coat peg become too much down in "Paradise".

#1 What a lot of nonsense you post on here. Hibs fans care more about beating Hearts than Hearts do about beating Hibs? Nonsense. Apart from your flirtation with being on another level (how's that worked out by the way), I would say the Jambos love beating us. Yogi is telling the truth. We Hibees are like Scottish Cup winners at looking forward to scoring goals against Hearts. After all, we create lots of chances.

#3 - "precisely what?"

There will be a good number of Hearts fans out there who have seen the team win 2 (top division) championships, 3 Scottish Cups and 4 League Cups "in their lifetime" as well as reaching the QUARTER FINAL of the UEFA Cup in 1989, 22 in a row and - oh yes - 'stay in bed Sunday'!!! 2 Dryburgh Cups? Oh right... well done!!!

So we can take it that none of the Yams here will be cheering if, in that unlikeliest of events, they manage a goal tomorrow; myself I'd settle for an excellent trouble free - on and off the park - game of football and as far as any fans 'hiding' goes I'd prefer knowledgeable and enthusiastic debate to any fans skulking around after such a game - be they from the East or West of the city - so I don't agree with John Hughes, though, naturally, he is not to be taken seriously on this one.

Quarter Final in 1989 as someone has already said.
22 in a row
15 trophies to Hibs 9
A 4-0 horsing in a Scottish Cup Semi, or were you dressed as a seat that day??

Here's a nice FACT for you, if Hibs win EVERY league derby for almost 18 years, all you will do is EQUAL Hearts number of victories : )

Go and do some research.

#27 Is Fit 'o the walk one of them? If so I bow to his achievement. Indeed are you one of them? Interesting to note that any trophy that has eluded Hearts seems to be not worth winning. The Dryburgh Cup for those of you too young to remember was a cup for teams that scored most goals the previous season, which normally meant the top 4 teams in the league. These same teams more often than not also qualified for Europe through their league position. Can't recall Hearts ever qualifiying to compete in this short lived competition, however, there will be those who have fond memories of the Texaco Cup which Hearts were more accustomed to competing in so that, in their eyes, would probably hold more prestige than European competition.

As a matter of interest care to share how many honours you have witnessed Hearts winning rather than constantly referring to 1902? I like many other Hibs supporters have no control over Hibs Scottish Cup record no matter how many times you and some of the fellow imbeciles mention on here. I would suggest that I have probably witnessed more cup finals than the likes of you and win, lose or draw they were great days out.

There will, however be a considerable number who have witnessed the 9 major trophies in their "lifetime".

The Dryburgh Cup? “was open to the four highest-scoring teams from Division 1, and the four highest-scoring teams from Division 2. The format allowed the tournament to have three rounds: First Round, Semi-final and a Grand Final.”

I don't know if 0-7 is the largest league away victory in a derby? but here is a little known fact, Hibs hold the record for the highest score in an away league game. The record was set on the 24th Oct 1959, 1-11 against Airdrie. This is not only a Scottish, but also a British Record that still stands to this day.
