MARK McGHEE is refusing to dismiss suggestions he could be the new manager of Hearts but claims all his attentions are focused on guiding Motherwell into Europe for now.
Vladimir Romanov is currently interviewing candidates for the Tynecastle vacancy, which continues to be filled by Stephen Frail on an interim basis. McGhee is understood to have superseded Jim Jefferies as the favoured choice with Craig Levein all but ruled out earlier this week.

The Motherwell manager is refusing to comment on speculation but admitted he is aware of the link with Hearts, saying: "It's not the first time someone has said that to me but I have been down in Brighton and didn't see any Scottish papers and I have no idea about it.

"At the moment, it is pure speculation and there is no point in talking about speculation. You may as well speculate about me being the Real Madrid manager as I'm not prepared to comment on that.

"I am just looking forward to trying to get Motherwell into third spot and that is what all my attention is focused on."

nothing to read into it surely, it's just standard manager talk to say 'bog off and leave me alone'.

he's hardly going to rule himself out and he's hardly likely to enrage his employer by confirming.

blah blah blah in other words, is he a hobo?

KingKenny,

Good talk. Motherwell still Can Uefa cup place.

Thats not a hint of jealousy or even worse fear is it? that Hearts might just be getting their act together.

16 lines to fill in the paper I suspect, just to tease us, since we've been talking about it.
Does Banderson intiate any of his own stories?
Once the "Pineapple on Pizza debate at Riccarton" hits the press, then we'll know for sure.

Hello sensible chaps and our resident normal Hibbies...Also hello clones, Hobos and fake Liths...Labas one and all!!

Vic buddy, I kinda' think that his remarks are also exactly what a manager of a rival club who was about to switch would say...no? i think you may have been right about the rumour.

Anyone want to hear any more bat or rhino facts?

Correct McGhee or any manager for that fact isnt going to admit to rumours or speculation linking him to another club while they are already at a club. What he has said every other manager would say the same.

The largest cat possible is the Liger, it is a male lion crossed with a female tiger, the other combination is the tigon but the liger grows bigger since it's genes that stop growth are inhibited...It is thought they are too big to survive in the wild... :-(

Ah, I am an amateure entemologist!

the death's head hawk moth (silence of the lambs) is able to raid the honey supplies of the largest honey bee on earth (asian) because it copies exactly the pheramone produced by the workers and as such they don't sting it when it raids their nest.

Just more froth. Pick a name - get a "no comment" - print it up! Who ever gets the job, he will certainly have to better than the current manager of the Hobos. With all due respect, I don't think Mixi will last longer that a couple of months into the next season.

Both Victor and myself posted way back beginning of Feb that McGhee would be manager from sources that we had heard, since then though Ive heard another story which may or may not include mcghee, Vic and LF can confirm it has come from a fairly reliable source

He Is a better standard of manager than mixu, he has managed in a better standard of league than mixu as well.

There are managers i would have before mcghee if given the choice but still a lot better than at present or what we have had since burley.

Mere cats are related to mongooses...mongese...eh...mongooses, and they have different warning chirps depending on whether they are threatened in the sky by a hawk or eagle or from the ground by a jackal, gennet or snake.

only saying don't think he has all that good a record, just had a wee look to confirm, and also his season is going to come undone with Motherwell who have arguably the same kind of squad as Hearts, is there to be another spending spree this summer to aid his chances?
27

no fan of the sfa,

27/03/2008 13:31:40
If, thats a big IF a new manager is appointed then it has to be the best person who will take it.

McGhee has done a reasonable job at motherwell, but they have been faltering badly over the last month or so. They were knocked out of the scottish cup very cheaply and have a look of a team desperate for the season to finish.

The problem i have with mcghee is that he tends to jump ship very quickly. Put that together with a man like romanov who like to sack over performing employees then i doubt mcghee would last 10 games.
28

Chas Niceass,

27/03/2008 13:59:12
#28 Motherwell have not been helped by a combination of factors to be honest. They have a backlog of matches due to the tragic events over New Year, the weather and their pitch.
I believe they have even struggled to train properly.
Point taken on McGhee and his itchy feet though, was it move from Leicester to Wolves that caused a commotion.
Generally he has improved teams though, think his work at Brighton, was particularly impressive.
29

busbyfh,

Pure and utter speculation.....
As has been proven over the last three years when rumours about Hearts signing Scottish players or managers comes about. Let downs for us fans every time.....................................

Yet call me daft
(Daft...Ed.)
But I stupidly read into McGee's replies that he would appreciate the chance to come to Tynie.
A manager with no ambition to sign for Hearts could have very easily cut the conjecture totally dead in its tracks.
(mind you - the Motherwell record recently has looked quite shabby , but that could be down to having large gaps between games)

Jt&T & Vic

Surely no-one in their right minds would be jealous of Hearts just now. It would be like being jealous becouse your mate is going on holiday, even though he is going to Niddrie.

re the new manager, regardless of who it is, it will only be a good thing if Vlad backs off and gives the new gaffer complete control. Time will tell if that will happen, however given the way he has worked in the past it does seem doubtful.
32

SirSerg',

27/03/2008 14:33:34
It would be great if HoM do employ proper manager with correct coaching qualifications to allow the Liths to improve their ability.

Having unqualified interim managers isn't helping anyone at the club.

How can players improve?
33

JamboThrough&Through,

27/03/2008 15:02:46
Serg i wouldnt worry too much about Liths being improved by a proper manager, a proper manager wouldnt play the dross thats been sent over from Kaunas in the first place, the way its looking they will all be back there soon enough. The quicker the better.
34

Chas Niceass,

27/03/2008 15:24:50

McGhee is someone who would certainly come in and improve Hearts, there's no dopubt in my mind about that.
All these insecure Hibbies, flapping away on Hearts threads, telling anyone daft enought to believe them, that nobody would want the Hearts job...WRONG!
The time is close at hand, Campbell Ogilvy, a man of considerable reputation, will sort this out.
What is obvious, or appears to be, is that the person we are looking to bring in is currently employed.
Otherwise why persist with the current regime?
37

Florentine_Pogen,

#9 Victoria, what's with the bat comment ? Is Mark McGhee a vampire or summat ?

Vlad Dracul as new manager of the Hertz ?

Could be a great appointment.

Supporter,

Sorry but I think the whole McGhee story has been put out by Hearts to try to boost season ticket sales. When the same story was put out by a reporter in the Glasgow papers over a month ago McGhee DID give a decisive answer = he LAUGHED and said there was absolutely NO chance of him making a move to another SPL club (LAUGHED again and added unless it was Celtic as he was "a Celtic fan born and bred"). There is NO chance of his moving from Motherwell if they finish third in the league and, according to a Glasgow journalist who drinks in our local McGhee is being (and already knows he is being) lined up to take over if/when Strachan leaves Parkhead as McGhee is what the Tic fans refer to as "a Celtic man" and would be welcomed with open arms. Have you heard him speak? There's no way in God's earth a man of his ability and intelligence would comply with Romanov's wishes on the latter's STATED aim to use Tynie as a showcase for Lithuanian players and there's no way any sane and sensible Hearts fan really believes that Romanov (especially in recent matches) isn't still picking the team. Do you really believe all the so-called
"injuries"? Why do these stories get believed now when they weren't under Ivanauskas and Korobochka? Because Steven Frail says it's true? Naw - they've just got better at PR and put a SCOTTISH puppet in place as a mouthpiece - Vlad still rules and there's no way McGhee would last working under him.

Comments about Motherwells' recent performances is daft.
They were scintillating before Phil O' Donnell died.
Since then they have slowly ground to a halt.
Too much sadness in the heart of thier team I beleive.

If Frail was being lined up as manager would he not be taking courses for the appropriate badges by now ?
Scorchio could well be correct - the "lined up guy" is presently employed - but where ?
Come on FFFHibee offal - Too easy to pass up surely.

If I have any talent at reading between the lines (and I believe I have), McGhee will be the new manager. If I was him though I would insist on the following:

(1) Pick his own coaching staff.

(2) No interference in team selection.

(3) No clause in his contract requiring non-disclosure when his time is up.

Better still if he has money for players and can keep the existing good players, if there are any, but I would settle for the 3 points above.
47

Laughing at The Jambos,

That'll be the same mark McGhee out-performed since Xmas by Stevie frail then is it Muchachos???
..........fair enuff then........(half a season at Motherwell almost certainly DOES make you WELL qualified to handle a wee jobby or two in that scabby bit of Edinburgh duntit?). Hee-Haww--Hee-Haww!!!
