Rheingau XI 0
Hearts 6

Ksnavicius (5), Berra (11), Zaliukas (18), Kingston (43pen), Stewart (57), Makela (59)
HEARTS opened their pre-season tour of Germany with a resounding victory against a regional select in Geisenheim.

Czaba Laszlo's side fielded a virtually different team in each half with Lee Wallace being the only man to play the entire 90 minut
es due to a rib injury sustained by David Obua, the Ugandan who is waiting for work permit clearance to sign for Hearts, in training earlier in the day.

Hearts started brightly with Kingston shooting just over from 20 yards following good work on the left from Andrew Driver, and it was the left-winger who laid on the opening goal soon after when his ball into the box fell kindly for Audrius Ksanavicius, who struck a firm left footed shot past the goalkeeper.

The second goal arrived after just 11 minutes when teenage striker Gary Glen nodded a corner on from the left and captain Christophe Berra ran on to the flick to finish.

Another corner after 18 minutes lead to the third when Ksanavicius' inswinger from the right was bulleted low into the net by the head of Marius Zaliukas.

The 18-year-old Glen looked intent on continuing where he left off last season as he continued to give positive glimpses of his potential. First a cross from the right was glanced just wide of goal by David Templeton, then a he saw a surging run and shot well saved by the goalkeeper.

With two minutes of the first half remaining and Hearts looking utterly dominant, Rheingau conceded a penalty as Ksanavicius was downed following some nice footwork. Laryea Kingston neatly converted the award into the left hand corner.

The second half saw the new-look, fresh-legged Hearts continue in the same vein with Michael Stewart at the centre of myriad forward forays. Stewart himself made it five when a David Cesnauskis shot was beaten out by the hosts' goalkeeper only for the former Scotland international to return the ball with interest into the roof of the net.

Finnish striker Juho Makela will be hoping for better fortune under new manager Laszlo and he put himself in the Hungarian's thoughts with a neat turn and volley from a Cesnauskis cross that finally wrapped up Hearts' stroll in the sun.

The result left the players with a smile on their faces which was exactly the mantra being preached prior to the game by Laszlo. The former Uganda manager is determined to lift the players' confidence while in Germany after admitting the squad looked "completely down" during his first week at the club.

"If you don't have passion in you and if you don't love your work then you cannot give anything to the other people," Laszlo told Hearts World. "If I go into the dressing room my adrenaline goes up. I want to show the people I like my job.

"If the people see the manager coming in the dressing room with wrong body language and not smiling and encouraging the players then he cannot show the right way.

"Everyone has a good or bad day but if I go in the dressing room I put all my problems to the side and concentrate on my job. Normally I am positive all the time.

"If you don't smile then you are losing the day. But If you don't have discipline off the field, you don't have discipline on the field," he added.

Hearts (first half): Banks; Karipidis, Zaliukas, Berra, Wallace; Ksnavicius, Palazuelos, Kingston, Driver; Glen, Templeton.

Hearts (second half): MacDonald; Thomson, Ivaskevicius, McGowan, Wallace; Mikoliunas, Stewart, Jonsson, Cesnauskis; Makela, Mole.

For shame.

Good noises coming from Laszlo but in reality he is playing with the same squad as last season and he is preparing for the new season with the same old tired playing staff.

Am I right to be concerned about the lack of transfer activity with the new season looming? The one signing has work permit issues and gets 'injured' before his first match! Paranoid - maybe...

New players needed and I wish there was more indications, rumours or media leaks as to who we are after.

New players need to join soonest so they can get used to the managers style, tactics etc therefore activity is now needed. Or maybe the players we have are good enough but merely wouldn't/couldn't play for Frail etc. Or maybe they are keek after all...

Very true but some times all it takes is for a change at the top.
Seen it many a time in the army, the commander changes and the performance of the troops improves.
They were not different people it is just the commander had a different way of doing things and it worked all the way down the line.

spawn or minnows Hearts still tanked them

where as the gers struggled to beat a 4rth Division gers side

but according to some gers posters Celtic have been rank in their pre season friendlies

smoke and mirrors strikes again

i have no issue

however few of the gers posters on here add the "but rangers did"

most just post about the deficits they perceive in the Celtic team

but strangely do not post about flaws in the gers team

Does it matter the team played are not exactly Budesliga material, the whole point of pre-season games is fitness levels need brought up, a new manager wants to test formations, players etc. A good result and performance boosts confidence no matter who your playing, and its confidence the players have been needing for a long time.

Seem to recall Rangers struggling against Clyde a few days ago. I didn't see anyone on here harassing the rangers fans for their inept performance there. Celtic get beat from Fulham and draw with Boro both EPL teams, so what its pre-season, does it mean anything? maybe to some fans, It's what you do come the start of the season that matters.

Anyway, Im happy with last nights result, and happy with a lot of the players attitudes now. As I say confidence is coming back, players are happy again, and Csaba is being given the control we have missed in a manager since the days of Burley. All looking good for the new season so far, just a few signings needed which have been promised and an exciting season ahead I think.

Are Rangers fans worried that Vlad is getting things right at last, and might have to witness another end of season game against us at Ibrox where we can take the daily papers and sit and read them again, as we beat them into 2nd place?

Anyway, got mates out there who were also in Germany last year and they say that it is like watching a different team. No illusions as to what lies ahead but at least we are starting to look like a proper team again.

But i DID read that a huge number of rangers fans took time out to abuse Kenny Miller.

What's up? Did he not used to play for a big Glasgow team?

Two things, one I'm glad it's not just the hibs thread that has been infested with Glaswegian types. I really dont mind any f them when they talk about the articles but it gives me the proper irrits when they start gubbin on about two peurile and inane religious factions in the west with no regard for the thread or the posters using it.

THIS IS NOT AN OF THREAD...

Now ive got that off my chest...

This looks much more promising for your lot. After the debacle of last seasons' warm up games and trainingm it would seem the right changes are being made this time around. That should ensure that, while you wont come 2nd or probably even 3rd this season, chances are you wont find yourselves in as much trouble round Christmas time either...

I was happy to read Csaba's comments on this game. While we scored 6, he was unhappy as we had 20 good chances and should have scored more.

Of course, pre-season games mean nothing in terms of results but it's great to hear about the big difference in spirit and mood of the camp since Csaba came in.

All in all, I'm very happy at the progress being made.

Back to the game...

Good to see 21 players getting a run out. Keeps fitness levels up and its providing every player an opportunity to impress the new manager.

I would have hoped that a few trialists would be training with hearts in germany but its only a small grumble. Hopefully when Csaba sits down with vlad Csaba will have a list of positions he need strengthening and the can then decide on transfer targets.

Johnny Jambo,

Why are people having a pop at Hearts because they beat a team of "Minnows" too many po=eople put to much credit into Pre season "tours" these are games played just to give the players a run out try and work some new tactics and perhaps score some goals as well. Yes this team are a team made up of players from the lower reaches of the German leagues, but so what playing the game, giving the players a run ouyt and not getting any injuries are what these matches are about.
Give the players a break guys.
The season starts in a few weeks lets start to judge them after that.

Well. There we go. We comfortably won and game would should have won. Comfortably.

Nothing more than a training match this really. It's good to see Csaba having a good look at the players he's got already, hopefully we'll hear of a trialist or two shortly...

Jam Tarts 1874,

On the Rebound 24/07/2008 10:17:26
Some of the improvement in the player's performances will be down to the fact that they know that Csaba will boot them, too many of them previously got away with murder.

Romanov is in Germany with Csaba today to discuss signings, finally the players will now have realised that they are dispensible.

Jam Tarts 1874,

Pundit and Bring are both clearly emotionally and physically inadequate, there is no other rationale for their constant drivel on these threads, best just to ignore them. Perhaps they will eventually just head off and go and lick some windows or something.

I rather think the reputation of Scottish football has already been damaged enough by other 'Scottish' clubs recently, dontcha think?

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I personally believe that we will be well in the hunt for third place this season. Motherwell, Utd and Aberdeen were all strong last year, but the way these things go that probably means that one of them is a cert to have a bad season. Hibs, like ourselves were poor last season, though i'm sure they were chuffed enough to be above us. I would not like to say yet how I think they will do, only that I have my doubts about Mixu as a manager.
As usual one of the glory hunting bigot teams will win the league!

He has been working with the squad for 7-10 days, after the training camp in Germany I think we will see signings, but that's just my opinion.

I appreciate common sense isn't well received on here by the bitter Hibs fans and the resident Rangers numpty

The 7 players that have left are:

Eddie Mearns - Dundee - youngster who obviously isn't good enough

Neil McCann - Falkirk - too old and should have retired after his horific injury last season and gone into coaching with hearts.

Roman Bednar - West Brom - was un-interested in his lsat season. Got good money for him. I'd have kept him though.

Ibrahim Tall - Nantes - was at the end of his contract and wanted to move back to France. Excelent player and i'd have kept him.

Jose Goncalves Nurenberg LOAN - was like bambi on ice all last season. He is however still a hearts player, so we will recoup money if Nuremberg want to keep him.

Marc McCusker - Clyde - youngster who obviously isn't good enough.

Mauricio Pinilla - Released - always injured and like you his head isn't quite right. Was on a lot of money which can be used elsewhere.

So out of the 7 players who have gone i'd have kept 2. Has that really weakened us? 1 player in with more to come.

48

A Jambo come rain or shine,

#68 Stevie Frail proved last season that with the squad we had that when he had full control, we were good enough to beat most teams. We had the best record outside the OF from mid Jan onwards (except post split but sod that) Now with a manager with experience, drive, tactical awareness, commitment and a decent attitude that has the players working for each other and enjoying the work again, how can we be any worse? I'm loathe to jump the gun and start making stupid predictions but i'll be amazed if we're not in the top 6 and hopefully challenging for 3rd.

Dundee Utd have just lost Noel Hunt
Dons are average anyway
Murderwell have lost McCormack
Hibs have gained Mixu!
Falkirk - not sure about but beatable.

As 69 says, we've lost Bednar and Tall. Karapidis is a good replacement for Tall so not the end of the world but i'll admit we do need strikers. Maybe we could take Kenny Misser on loan 1/2 way through the season when he's been hounded out of Castle greyskull - but i don't think we'll be that desperate
