Scotland are ready and able to "move on" without Kris Boyd.
Assistant coach Terry Butcher admits Boyd's decision to refuse to play for his country during George Burley's tenure as manager came as a "shock" – but he has no doubt Scotland can prosper without the Rangers striker.

"We have to move on without Kris Boyd and we certainly will do," Butcher told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We have enough players."

Scotland were held to a frustrating 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw at home to Norway on Saturday – after which Boyd quit, citing a lack of opportunity under Burley.

Butcher believes Boyd's future absence is the right move, though, if the 25-year-old is no longer truly committed to the cause.

"It is his decision – and as George said quite rightly yesterday, every national coach wants players who are 100% behind playing for their country," he said.

Now when we get rid of any other players who are not fully committed then Burley will be able to pick from a team that really wants to play. That rules out any Glasgow Rangers players anyway.

The man should never be near a position with the national side.

"Walter" has also made a rod for his own back over this.

When we do return to domestic hostilities, he will have a decision to make on Saturday against Dundee Utd.

Option 1 - Placate the ReaRangers hoardes and play Boyd as a GIRFUY to the critics?

Option 2 - start Boyd on the bench and then (it'll never happen I know) be asked awkward questions about Boyds future?

None of these options have an easy long term out for "walter".

If he starts and scores, the clamour for him to be in the team from Scotlands media will outweigh that on George Burley (aye right)

If he starts and dizny score playing his normal KAK games, thats a bummer for both Boyd and "walter"

The only winner in all of this is the bold Kenny Misser. He must be chuckling away to himself as he pushes Boyd out at both club and international level.

And the ReaRangers fans blame George Burley...

With Boyd quitting Scotland where will he play football now?
....What's that?....he plays for Rangers?
Since when?

Seriously though, I hope that at whatever point in the future when Scotland have a new manager he WON'T allow Boyd back in the setup. I always liked Boyd as a player....good poacher but now he's thrown the toys out the pram I don't ever want to ever see him back in the Scotland setup. He's had a reputation as being a lazy player, even Darren Fletcher said he was the worst trainer on his wee stint on SoccerAM. So regardless of his goalscoring, if he's simply walking about in training I understand why he's not getting his game. Similarly he's not playing regularly for club so that should go against him. But going off in the huff cos he didnae get a game speaks volumes and that should be the end of the road. It should be an honour even to get ASKED to play for Scotland but he obviously doesn't see things that way.

Another good thing is I suppose it's another Rangers player who can no longer withdraw from a Scotland squad due to "injury" to then pop up in a Rangers shirt a few days later all better.

So in summary....good riddance (IMO).

#107 ..... Boyd has scored more goals than Fletcher and Iwelumo combined and has made more starts this season than Robson (for example). So Burley is being less than honest in his reasoning.

In any event, as Burley had declined to give Boyd a game, I really don't see what the problem is with Boyd declining to be considered for future selections.

Seems to me that manager and player have come to a mutually agreeable arrangement.
77

Choose a nameDr_Joseph_Phd,

Tynescos 14/10/2008 19:37:43
Jaggy, I agree that Burley's reason for not playing Boyd is about as plausible as his reckoning that his subs "changed the game" (was 0-0 when they cam on George, who scored?). What I can't agree with is that Boyd has made the right decision.
78

Jaggy,

14/10/2008 19:43:37
#111 ... I agree with you based on the facts we have. Yet Boyd has been willing to wait at Ibrox despite an opportunity of a transfer last summer. He could easily have done a Cousin and effectively forced a move. That is why I think that other things were said between Burley and Boyd which precipitated his decision.

I am willing to bet that all is not well in the Scotland camp and that there is more to come.

Kris Boyd will get you goals - So personally I would mould my team around him.
Burley is a good manager, he just isnt the man for the Scotland job. He applied, they hired him and now its time to get rid of him.

If Boyd was at Celtic he would play every week and score 40 plus a season, because unlike Scotland and Rangers, Celtic are inherently used to attacking! And they know how to use attackers.

HAD Hartson gone to Rangers he would have scored half the goals he scored at Celtic - FACT!

I disagree - look at the managers who dont use Boyd!

McLeish, Smith and Burley - all focussed on not losing, as opposed to winning!!

Strachan would play Boyd - because at Celtic, other players will work their socks off to get the ball to Boyd in the knowledge that he will put it away..
Telling you now, he would get 40 a season at a team who know how to attack..

"we'd be as well picking TOM Boyd........at least he'd put in a shift for you, and didn't get huffy."

That is the problem. Boyd doesn't "do" shifts. Boyd sits in and around the penalty box and scores goals. It is up to the rest of the team to do the shift.

The problem Scotland have - and to a lesser extent Rangers - is that they don't have the quality to create the chances and space for Boyd to slot the ball home with monotonous regularity. Boyd usually gets the blame for this of course.

When Boyd was paired with Prso, he scored a ton of goals. Why? Because Prso was pulling the defence all over the place and creating that space and those opportunities.

media is right. He probably would score a ton of goals at Celtc especially with that other well known Scot, McGeady, there to create the opportunities.
85

Richardinho,

'Kris Boyd will get you goals - So personally I would mould my team around him.'

Build your team around a player who periodically goes off on a huff? Great, as long as you don't mind building your predictions against the weather forecast.
