MORTON came from behind to grab a deserved point in a classic game of two halves.
A dramatic opening saw Saints snatch the lead in three minutes when Paul Sheerin's cross created mayhem in the home box.
Derek Holmes nodded it into the six-yard
box where Stewart Greacen's attempted clearance cannoned off Steven Milne and into the net.
However, Morton were level within two minutes when Jon Newby's cross found Ryan McGuffie racing in unmarked to slot home at the far post.
Chris Millar, playing against his old Morton mates, looked keen to make an impression and in 12 minutes his long shot was blocked in a crowded home box.
The midfielder then cut inside Alex Walker and tested Kevin Cuthbert with a skidding effort from the edge of the box.
Ton suffered a double setback before the break when first Walker was forced off after suffering a nasty head knock in an accidental collision with Martin Hardie.
And, before the home side were even able to put on their substitute, St Johnstone cashed in to reclaim the lead.
Hardie was the architect with a defence-splitting pass which allowed Swankie to run into the box and clip it over Cuthbert.
Morton came close when Steven Masterton's free kick was played along the six yard line by Peter Weatherson and Ryan Harding's header was tipped over the bar by Euan McLean.
However, the Saints keeper was left helpless when Morton drew level eight minutes from time, Erik Paartalu finding space to convert Masterton's cross.
