ST MIRREN have signed Celtic defender Scott Cuthbert on a one-year loan deal.
The club announced the signing on their official website after the 21-year-old agreed to the temporary move yesterday morning.

The Scotland Under-21 international, who can play in central defence or at right-back, has yet to make a first-team appe
arance for Celtic, but played for Livingston in a loan spell in 2006/07.

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson, who has made five signings this summer, said: "I'm delighted to get Scott in because it's one we've been trying for a while. Losing Will Haining to suspension and Marc McAusland to injury meant we had to do something. He's trained with us this morning and settled in OK.

"We've been looking for another defender for some time now. I think that's my squad complete though because, when everyone is fit, we've got really good competition for places."

MacPherson is surprised his former club Kilmarnock have been tipped for relegation. The manager will pit his wits against the SPL's longest serving boss, Jim Jefferies, at Love Street tomorrow and he believes the Rugby Park chief's experience will ensure they stay clear of the drop zone.

MacPherson said: "I'm surprised people are tipping Killie to struggle when you think how experienced their manager and players are. Someone has got to be the favourite, though, and a lot of the time no-one likes pinning the tail on the donkey.

"No-one likes to make predictions because it's so tough, but we'll have to try and be at our best every week."

#2 I am a Rangers and I know Scott Cuthbert will be a star player in a few years. This will be the move he needs to get valuable first team experience. Only wish WS would loan out some of the youngsters at Murray Park !!!

Looking at the timing of Scott's move it would appear Celtic were dead certs to land Loovens earlier than reported.

Great move for all involved here, I hope the lad makes a name for himself.
