St Mirren 2
McCay 20
Mason 78
HEARTS midfielder Laryea Kingston notched a superb free-kick to give the hosts all three points in a 3-2 victory over St Mirren.
The Ghana international found the net 10 minutes from time to seal the win.

Ryan McCay gave the visitors the lead in the 20th minute before Eggert Jonsson and Gary Glen ensured Hearts went in at the interval ahead.

Gary Mason levelled for St Mirren with a long-range dipping volley but Kingston got in on the act to secure the victory.

Hearts made a lively start to the match with Glen, in his first start for the club, involved in the early action.

Glen won the hosts a corner after just two minutes when his left-footed shot cannoned off the outstretched John Potter.

St Mirren survived that scare and could have gone one up themselves in the fifth minute.

Andy Dorman collected a pass 25 yards from goal and his stinging shot was parried by Steve Banks before the danger was eventually cleared.

After a bright opening, the match slumped into a disappointing battle in the middle of the park which saw countless passes going astray.

However, McCay made the most of a rare sight of goal to give the visitors the lead.

After latching on to Garry Brady's lay-off, McCay was allowed to run at the Hearts defence before unleashing a powerful shot from 20 yards that beat Banks.

Hearts were level within seven minutes through Jonsson with the aid of a massive deflection.

Glen forced his way down the line before the ball made its way to the Iceland international on the edge of the box and his left-footed strike hit Will Haining en route to the net, wrong-footing Mark Howard.

Hearts then stormed into the lead four minutes before the break through Glen.

Jonsson did well to get away from Brady in the middle of the park and found Saulius Mikoliunas who put Glen through on goal.

Howard blocked his first shot but Glen followed up the rebound to find
the net.

St Mirren had a chance to restore parity six minutes into the second period when they were awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal.

However, goal scorer McCay failed to find the target this time as his left-footed strike sailed over the cross bar.

There was a brief pause in the play when Hearts striker Christian Nade received treatment for a head knock.

Although the injury did not appear that serious, Hearts interim head coach Stevie Frail substituted the Frenchman for Juho Makela.

The Finn came close to adding a third in the 65th minute. The ball broke to Makela following a collision between St Mirren pair Howard and Ian Maxwell but Haining cleared the shot off the line.

Hearts were well in control in the second period as they dominated possession. St Mirren were limited to shots from outside the area and Banks got down well to a powerful Dorman effort in the 70th minute.

However, Mason's dipping volley from 25 yards was out of reach for Banks as the ball crashed into the top corner of the net.

Mason pounced after Kingston lost possession to bring the Paisley side level in the 77th minute.

In another twist to the game, Kingston made amends by putting Hearts back into the lead three minutes later.

The home outfit were awarded a free-kick for a foul on Mikoliunas and Kingston found the net from 25 yards with a well-executed set-piece.

Hearts: Banks, Thomson, Berra, Karipidis, Goncalves (Wallace 79), Palazuelos, Jonsson, Kingston, Mikoliunas, Nade (Makela 61), Glen (Stewart 88).

St Mirren: Howard, Barron, Haining, Potter, Maxwell, McCay (Hamilton 78), Dorman, Mason (Corcoran 87), Brady (McGinn 67), Dargo, Mehmet.

Attendance: 15,259
Referee: M McCurry.

I was becoming extremely bored with this game especially when St Mirren scored their goal, I was contemplating will I/won't I renew my season ticket. I then began to realise that in young Glen Hearts have unearthed a unique talent, by the end of the game I was thinking more of how good is this kid going to be by next season, I guess I'll just have to have a season ticket to find out.

surely a stroll round saughton park would be a cheaper option, and better for the auld ticker in the long run

#1 No my friend, you do NOT have to buy a season ticket.

Have a read at the reports from yesterday's farce of an AGM and then tell me if you believe HMFC is in safe hands.

Tell me if you think that paying £400+ up-front to prop-up Romanov's shambolic regime makes sense.

Show a little sang-froid and wait until Romanov delivers on a new manager before deciding on whether to buy your season ticket.

This is the best lever the fans have at the moment to show Romanov we mean business and will send Romanov the right message. Don't waste the opporunity.

#3 Not buying season tickets is really the only way of showing Romanov the fans mean business but it could be a very risky strategy. It may well just be the signal for Vlad to cut and run. i.e. sell off the land, abandon the football club and sail off into the sunset with as much cash as he can get. It's not a scenario any right minded football fan wants to see.

StockportJambo,

#1 - you don't have to buy a season ticket at all. You can simply pay at the gate, and NOT hand over £400+ to the lying sack of scheidts that are ru(i)ning our club.

Assuming of course young Glen gets a game. If he's that good, he'll be dropped shortly.

That's the way they work you see. I have absolutely no faith that it will be any different.
6

StockportJambo,

19/04/2008 21:23:53
#4 - and we will simply be reborn under FC Heart of Midlothian in the lower leagues and start again.

This could well be the best option in the long run.

Not many comments here tonight. Must be out celebrating being top of the wee league.

Quote of the day-

'I was thinking more of how good is this kid going to be by next season, I guess I'll just have to have a season ticket to find out.'

get a grip.

#8 - that's the official figure which includes season ticket holders (i.e. those who have already paid for their ticket long before the fixture list for the bottom 6 is announced!).

The real figure was something more like 12,000 apparently, from those who were there.

jambtastic,

Some great goals from both teams in an entertaining game , Glen loks like a star in the making with a superb touch 15 thousand for a end of season game is 5 thousand more we would have got 4 year ago

#11. You are talking garbage as usual. The attendance figure is only those who come through the turnstiles - FACT! As usual you sit on your backside in England and opine on matters which you have no knowledge of.

With 13,500 ST holders already paid up, it isn't THIS season that the effect of any fan unrest will be seen.....it's ST the renewal rate that the russians'll be noting at the moment....I can't see that "pay at the door" is a bad idea....I mean, it's the classic way of saying "if I like the product, I'll be back...if not, stuff it Vlad".....it's not much,,but at least itsa start Eh?

#14 exactly!! as soon as you pay over your money...you've lost your power.

Its no different from, say, getting your haircut: if you pay on arrival, you've lost your power not to pay if you're not happy with your bonce.

Not sure if this analogy is a good one? Maybe the way we have been scalped this season ..its not far off the mark, maybe?

Much like the how many people have been recorded through the turnstiles debate going on above.....the trick is to be united so its documented on how many paid at the gate that were affiliated to the pay-at-the-gate cause: someone like John Robertson would make a better front man than Derek (oh my knees are hurting me) Watson.

I don't know what planet you are on with holding up Ian Bell as a paragon of virtue? his writing can be okay, albeit bordering on being slightly turgid...but certainly a wee bit biased (obviously a tick fan):

I liked one of the comments attached to the story though:

Posted by: John McHugh, Glasgow on 2:22am Sun 8 Apr 07

"I take it Mr Bell's colleague wasn't on the journalist bus in Milan that was attacked by Celtic fans or that neither Mr Bell or his colleague are aware that Celtic were fined by UEFA because of bottle-throwing by their fans inside the San Siro? Otherwise, making the statement "Celtic somehow managed to take thousands of supporters to Italy without a hint of trouble" is a strange one to make............

............Hooliganism and discrimination are things we all want to see disappear from football but this article is almost a defence of the animals who pass for riot police indiscriminately battering defensless people. There is no excuse for their actions, just as there is no excuse for sloppy journalism."

THE BPRENTICE,

why couldn't we have seen more of a Makela/Nade partnership during this season?

its frustrating to see HM & GG being given a chance now that we are doomed to the bottom six....all that Elliot promoting will not be forgotten quickly...another example of Frail NOT BEING THE MAN!!!!!!

I know Nade will proably be sold on but I'd love to see him fit after a good close season beasting - hopefully hmfc will bring in some more coaches - Sandy Clark would get my vote...he would be a great insperation to CN, IMO.
21

THE BPRENTICE,

20/04/2008 12:02:21
#CJ I agree but you hit the nail on the head when you said Makela's appearances have been all too brief - out of position in some. There's no point in having decent players without good management and Frail is not a clean pair of hands....and I'm not talking about the hand up Shaggy's his back, working him from behind.

#13 - charming aren't you? The info that there was only around 12,000 there came from Hearts.TV (who know a damn sight more than you), but its well known that Hearts take season ticket holders as being part of the attendance whether they're there or not.

If you don't believe me, why don't you ask the club?

Any disgruntled employees out there recently sacked by what can only be described as an erse? Let us all know.
Maybe thats why you claimed to go to the US of A for 2 weeks but come back a few days later with yet ANOTHER new username?

Right, it doesn't take an idiot to realise that Hearts need to sign up both Glen and Kingston on long contracts, and put a NOT FOR SALE sign up if they are to do anything in the next few years!

Selling quality players just has to stop NOW!!!
