JOHN Gemmell was the outstanding contributor to the most incredible match in Scotland on Saturday as his four goals helped Albion Rovers recover from 3-0 and 4-3 down to win 5-4 at East Stirling.
The day had started so well for the hosts as Andrew Brand, Derek Ure and Joe Savage scored inside the opening 32 minutes to seemingly put them on course for a comfortable win.
Gemmell pulled one back before the break and Rovers were level within
seven minutes of the second period thanks to Gemmell's second and an Ian Chisholm strike.
Shire re-established their lead through Andy Brand but Gemmell levelled again and then struck the winner with 15 minutes remaining. "John did really well to get his goals, but every one of those players was fantastic," enthused Rovers manager John McCormack.
Elsewhere, East Fife continue to lead the division by nine points after a 2-0 win over Forfar, with Steven Tweed and Bobby Linn on target. Tweed and Forfar's John Ovenstone were later sent off in separate incidents.
Stranraer remain a distant second despite Mark Stewart and Danny Mitchell scoring in a 2-0 win at Dumbarton. A spectacular overhead kick from Steve Doris gave Montrose victory against Stenhousemuir, while Hugh Dickson and Mark Nicolson were sent off in Elgin's 3-1 loss at home to Arbroath.
