DUMBARTON 0 STRANRAER 2
STRANRAER cemented their place in the play-off positions with a straight forward 2-0 win at Dumbarton.

After 16 minutes the visitors took the lead through Mark Stewart. Dumbarton's Michael O'Byrne committed a serious howler in the penalty area an
d eventually the ball found its way to Stewart who finished from close range.

Dumbarton may have had a penalty just before the interval as Gerry McLaughlin appeared to foul Robert Campbell in the Stranraer box but the referee waved away the protests.

Although the hosts were livelier in the second half the Stranraer goalkeeper remained largely redundant and the visitors finally killed the game off three minutes from the final whistle as Danny Mitchell added a second goal.

EAST STIRLING 4 ALBION 5

EAST Stirling and Albion Rovers served up a feast of goals in a thrilling match at Firs Park.

Shire opened the scoring in the 2nd minute after Donaldson's in-swinging corner was headed home by Andrew Brand. The hosts doubled their lead through Derek Ure in the 27th minute before Joseph Savage added a third goal five minutes later, tapping in from close range.

John Gemmell scored either side of half time for Albion before Ian Chisholm equalised for Rovers in the 54th minute.

Brand then put Shire back in front but Gemmell levelled matters with his third of the game in the 63rd minute.

Gemmell then capitalised on a woeful blunder by Hill to score his fourth and Albion's fifth to seal a memorable 5-4 win.

ELGIN CITY 1 ARBROATH 3

ARBROATH ran out comfortable winners over nine-man Elgin at Borugh Briggs.

Elgin took the lead inside two minutes when Nicholson's cross was put through his own net by Arbroath's Jamie Bishop. However, City were reduced to ten men amid violent scenes as Hugh Dickson head-butted Arbroath's Steven Rennie and Dickson was given his marching orders.

Arbroath equalised in the 29th minute. Brain Scott retreated from an offside position but while the Elgin defence switched off, Andy Reilly ran on to finish calmly past the isolated Ally Ridgers in the Elgin goal.

Kevin Webster scored in the 60th minute to give the visitors the lead before Elgin's Mark Nicholson was sent off for a second booking.

Watson hit the third on 87 minutes.

FORFAR 0 EAST FIFE 2

EAST Fife maintained their stronghold at the top of the third division despite playing the last 23 minutes with 10 men.

Steven Tweed was sent off for a second booking in the 67th minute after petulantly kicking the ball away. However, by this point the league leaders had earned the three points.

It took only four minutes for the Fifers to score the opening goal. The Forfar goalkeeper flapped at a Dougie Cameron cross and defender Tweed looped a header into the empty net.

East Fife's second goal came straight after half time when Bobby Linn drove the ball past Wood from twenty yards.

Forfar had a great chance to pull a goal back in the 77th minute but Brian Duell somehow managed to balloon the ball over the bar from just two yards out.

MONTROSE 1 STENHOUSEMUIR 0

ONE goal was enough to give Montrose the three points against lowly Stenhousemuir in a game which was severely hampered by some horrific weather conditions.

After a fairly quiet opening forty minutes, Montrose went in front in the 43rd minute in spectacular fashion. Steven Doris found the net from fifteen yards with a magnificent overhead kick which would not have looked out of place in some of the top leagues in the world.

The hosts could have doubled their advantage shortly before the interval but Ross Gardiner's header was cleared off the line by Stenhousemuir's Craig McEwan.

Stenhousemuir offered little as an attacking threat although John Dempster saw his long-range shot strike the bar in the 52nd minute.
