THIRTEEN-TIME grand slam winner Roger Federer has pulled out of next week's Stockholm Open.
The world tennis No.2, who has not played since winning his fifth consecutive US Open title last month, has revealed he needs a break from tennis.
"(This] has been a tough year for me, because I was always playing catch-up after being diagnosed with mononucleosis at the beginning of the year," said the Swiss, who lost the world's top spot to Rafael Nadal in August after holding it for a record 237 consecutive weeks.
"I feel fortunate to be healthy again, but I want to remain at the top of the game for many more years to come and go after the number one ranking again." Meanwhile, Jelena Jankovic will replace Serena Williams as the world's top-ranked woman player when the newest rankings are released on Monday, the WTA Tour body has announced.
The update follows Williams' defeat by unseeded Na Li in the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
