GERMANY'S Tommy Haas advanced to the second round of the Rogers Cup with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spain's Carlos Moya yesterday.
Gilles Simon of France defeated American Donald Young 6-1, 6-3, converting five of nine break points and winning in less than an hour.

Yesterday's schedule included matches pitting champion and No 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia against Canadian Peter Polansky, while sixth-seeded American Andy Roddick was to face Nicolas Mahut of France – both in second-round matches.

Unseeded Australian Samantha Stosur scored the biggest upset in the opening round of the WTA Los Angeles Classic on Monday night, easing to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over 12th seed Shahar Peer.
