INGLISTON is ready to throw its hat into the ring as a venue should British tennis officials decide to move a forthcoming Davis Cup tie back across the border.
The venue for Britain's next match, against Ukraine in the Euro-Africa group from March 6-8, 2009, is in doubt. This is because the tie was originally scheduled for Birmingham's NEC which is double-booked for the annual Crufts dog show, it has emerge

Speculation about a tartan tie has arisen in the English media who quoted Scottish-born world No.4 Andy Murray, saying: "I think there's a chance they might play in Scotland."

Greg Knight, director of the Royal Highland Centre, responded warmly to any prospect of top class tennis in the Edinburgh area.

It would be an alternative to Glasgow's Braehead Arena which has previously hosted Davis Cup. "We have had 10,000 at a concert and seating can be rolled out.

"If we can fit Davis Cup tennis into our schedule we'd be delighted" said Knight.

A Tennis Scotland spokesman added: "We would be delighted to host another Davis Cup tie following the previous match against Serbia and Montenegro in 2006 at the excellent Braehead Arena and given Scotland's recent input to the GB squad.

"If it were to happen then Ingliston might be able to change things around to become a possible venue."

The LTA were unavailable for comment.
