Andy and Jamie Murray's participation in the doubles competition at the Madrid Masters ended at the first hurdle today as they were dumped out by Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra.
The match lasted less than an hour with the French pair winning in straight sets, 6-4 6-3.

The Scottish duo had already saved one break point but their opponents made the most of chance number two in the 10th game – on the Andy Murray serve – to take the opening set.

Clement and Llodra then took charge of the second set early on when they broke Andy again in the fourth game, but the Murrays spurned a decent chance to hit back in the seventh game.

They opened up a 0-30 lead on Clement's serve but they were unable to hammer home their advantage as the French pairing rattled off four successive points to take the game before going on to secure the match.

Andy will now focus on his singles challenge, which will begin against Italian Simone Bolelli, who beat Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7/4) 6-1 today.
After his bye in round one, Murray would probably have expected to face Spaniard Almagro, who he lost to in the third round of the French Open earlier this year, but instead it will be a first career meeting with lucky loser Bolelli.

The encounter with the world number 43 will be Murray's first ATP Tour match since he reached the US Open final and climbed to number four in the world.

Murray is in the same quarter of the draw as Andy Roddick while Roger Federer is a potential semi-final opponent for the 21-year-old.

Its fantastic having doubles alongside a major singles tournament, shame the Murray's did not stay in longer.
