IAN DURRANT has backed Rangers' new signings to come through their first meeting with Celtic with flying colours.
Several players – including Pedro Mendes, Kyle Lafferty and Maurice Edu – could made their Old Firm debuts at Parkhead on Sunday.

Ibrox coach Durrant boasted a decent record in the fixture during his own playing career with Rangers and urged the debutants to make the most of the game.

"You have to relish it," he insisted. "If you come to Rangers and the first Old Firm game passes you by, then you will regret it.

"We will have the boys focused. We have been crying out for some creativity due to the absence of Barry Ferguson and we have that now. We have lads who can play the ball and play passes and in an Old Firm game that can be important."

I do feel that we go to Celtic Park as a better footballing team than when we visited last season. Mendes will help to bring out the best in Davis and Thomson, who are two capable young lads, while Beasley, if used, will bring us pace and width that was sadly lacking last term.

I've been encouraged by our SPL performances so far this season. The fight was evident at Falkirk, there was some decent football against Hearts, and our first half at Aberdeen was excellent, although without suitable end product.

It will need yet another level at CP, but I wouldn't rule Rangers out.
