Hibs boss mulls over deal for keeper Sinouh

HIBS boss Mixu Paatelainen will spend the weekend pondering on whether to offer Moroccan goalkeeper Khalid Sinouh a contract after watching him play in a closed doors match against Livingston.
The 33-year-old has now returned to Holland to consider his own position with Paatelainen likely to reveal on Monday whether or not Sinouh will be joining his Easter Road squad.

Paatelainen has been seeking a new goalkeeper for the past few months, with New Zealander Phil Imray and Lamine Meite from the Ivory Coast just two of many trialists he has looked at without taking matters any further.

Amsterdam-born Sinouh could be signed outwith the transfer window being a free agent after his last club, Turkish outfit Kasimpasa, failed to pay his wages and were forced to release him because of that breach of contract. Sinouh, who trained with Falkirk during their pre-season tour of Holland but could not agree a move, has been with Hibs over the past fortnight to allow Paatelainen and goalkeeping coach Gordon Marshall to conduct a full assessment of his abilities.

The trial period concluded with that closed doors match at Almondvale yesterday, a game which Hibs won 3-1 and now both Paatelainen and Sinouh, who played for Dutch clubs Haarlem, Heerenveen and RKC Waalwijk before joining Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and then returning to Holland to play for AZ Alkmaar, will consider their positions over the weekend.

Paatelainen said: "Khalid has done okay and played the full 90 minutes against Livingston. He has a bit more experience than the goalkeepers we have but he's now gone back to Holland to see his family as he's been away from them for a fortnight."

While revealing he'd expect the issue to be resolved one way or the other early next week, Paatelainen added: "There's no point in speculating. We have had plenty of trialists most of whom have gone unnoticed.

"This time it's become public and that's why there's been so much interest. We'll let everyone know when the time is right as to what the outcome is to be."

Whether or not Sinouh joins Hibs, Paatelainen has made it clear it wouldn't mean the end for either Yves Ma-Kalambay, who has won back the gloves since returning from Olympic Games action with Belgium, or Andy McNeil, insisting he simply wants further competition for the goalkeeping position.

He said: "I feel we have to strengthen in that area but if we bring in another goalkeeper it doesn't mean he's going to be No.1 straight away, we already have two very good goalkeepers."

Paatelainen fielded a mixed team against the First Division club. He said: "We played some players and told them to put an emphasis on some of the stuff they need to do a bit more of. We had a mix of first-team players and youngsters and some younger players came off the bench. It was a worthwhile exercise."

Remember folks - Hibees and Jambos - lets all blank the plank(s) - you now who I'm talking about - goes under loads of different user names but always posts the same garbage. Today it will be about putting 3 past Hertz in the Derby and/or them going bust.

As for the article - quality not quantity Mixu. No point getting this boy for the sake of it - Zarabi being the perfect example of what I'm talking about.

#6 or cracking one off.

Keep up the confidence lads, it honestly holds no bounds, more than happy for you guys to think it will be a walk in the park easy 3 nil win. That is when we are at our most dangerous. So its a bonus if the hobos are confident which you appear to be some would say super confident.

Anyway having lost our last two we are due one, your luck will run out after the offside pen at sheep land. Things shaping up nicely if your a Jambo.

I think the score should be around 10 or 11 - 0 for Hibs.

Our forward line will score regularly throughout the game. Our mid-field will dominate as it has all season. Hearts can't score goals, and if they try, we have Makalamby.

It will be like Barcelona v Hibs at the beginning of the season.

That's a fantasy of course. But to be serious, I can see us winning about 15 - 0.

#13 - Nah Iain the Jambos rarely lose 3 in a row. The fact its against the hobos who are over confident, and who themselves have the worse derby record in the world is a joy to behold and suggest the JT's are unlikley to lose a third on the trot.

It all points to a Hearts victory I can smell your fear, your "bricking it".

I don't care if we beat the scumbos with a last minute deflected fluke of a goal. I'd actually prefer it if they outplayed for the full ninety minutes and the above happened. They've done it many times in the past to us. So F thum and any victory will do me nicely.

However to answer your question I would say this.

Do we really need a 33 year old journeyman as competition for keeper?

Without having seen him play I couldn't give an opinion on his ability but would note that as a free gent he has failed to secure a contract & that does not fill me with confidence.

Also the Falkirk deal fell through, why? Was it because Falkirk couldnt afford his wages or was it because he wasn't good enough? If its the latter then he sure as heck aint good enough for us then.

All things considered, he's 33 now and couldnt get a deal with Falkirk so surely its going to be a case of.... "next please!".

Could be wrong & if he signs he could be a revelation of course but the history doesnt fill me with confidence as I said.
60

NotAgain...surely!!!!,

I think some of the comments about Maka are quite unfair. Id be happy to keep him between the sticks tbh.
Maka is certainly no worse than any of the other keepers in the SPL and McNeil as reserve so be it. A lot of Hibs fans are still psychologically damaged at just how bad Zibi was and it scares us that it might happen again. I dont think it is possible to get any worse. Focus should be getting some hardened midfielders in there to break up the play and supply the front men.
61

Plug-,

10/10/2008 15:50:48
It'd be interesting to hear the Hibs goal scorers in the 3-1 win v Livi's reserves, considering the game finished only 2-1.

Is it just me or is standard of journalism at the EEN cr*p?

SouthSideHibs,

#60 I thought Maka's kicking and general distribution against Rangers was very poor, a lot worse than usual.

This could be the influence of G.Marshall Esq, nerves or not trusting his FBs and/or this diamond formation - in other words we have no width therefore no wide players.

But I remember him throwing the ball 60 yds against either Bolton or Boro last year - and haven't seen him do it since! Mixu likes it 'direct' - not sure you can get more direct than a 60 yd throw to Big Nishy!

Spot on my man.

I've been suggesting this for some time now. The common factor in our duff goalkeeping coincided with GM coming to the club.

Of the current crop, I reckon we actually have three decent goalkeepers who, if coached adequately, are more than capable of doing a job. Maka in particular has shown enough to suggest he's good enough but he's still a laddie in GK'ing terms. With the proper coaching I think he'd be fine.

Scenario. Half time subbies warming up. McNeil, monitored by GM, shooting at goal. The goalkeeper who he's shooting at is a substitute striker. Eh? Is this how keepers warm up now? Sadly it's been a common occurence.

Marshall must go.

And Morais.

The trialist keeper is probably just passing through... like all the others. I haven't seen him play. All I know is, Livi put a goal past him. That's not highest endorsment.

I'd like to see a new coach for the keepers. Maka's unorthodox, to say the least, but there's talent there.

Like the scotsman website has some mystical power and the outcome will be decided from who is most reserved in their online posts!

Have you seen the "Make love not warcraft" episode of South Park? That's how I'm picturing you.

Listen, regardless off how confident the fans are, the cold hard facts are that you lot are pash and even if you do beat us next week, it will be down to Hibs having an off day and wont deteriorate the fact that you lot are still garbage and in a stinking mess.

OVER CONFIDENT POSTERS: my point exactly it does not matter what bull u post it reflects wishfull thinking.

The rest of your post;
'the cold facts are thay you lot are pash'(even if we win!)
'you lot are still garbage and in a stinking mess'
